Dual-Eligible Coverage in Idaho (Medicare + Medicaid)
A large share of our practice is built around dual-eligible Idahoans, including adults with developmental disabilities, clients receiving in-home or facility-based care, and individuals working with mental health agencies. We coordinate Medicare and Idaho Medicaid together, so nothing falls through the gap between the two programs.
Who this is for
- Idahoans on both Medicare and Medicaid
- Adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities
- Clients receiving in-home or community-based services
- Residents of skilled nursing or assisted-living facilities
- Clients with court-appointed or family guardians
- Case managers and agencies referring a client
What we do
- Coordinate Medicare and Idaho Medicaid so benefits work together instead of overlapping or leaving gaps
- Compare an MMCP-style integrated plan against Original Medicare plus Medicaid, using the client's actual doctors and prescriptions
- Review Dual Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) options where available
- Confirm Medicare Savings Program (QMB / SLMB) status, labeled to the current year's Idaho Medicaid limits
- Coordinate directly with case managers, guardians, and facility staff, and copy them on next steps
Working with professionals
Most of our dual-eligible work comes through referrals from case managers, social workers, mental health agencies, and skilled nursing or assisted-living staff across eastern Idaho. We respect HIPAA at every step, keep the referring professional copied when authorized, and never accept referral compensation from professionals. See our page for professionals to refer a client.

Common questions
- What does dual-eligible mean?
- It means someone qualifies for both Medicare (usually by age or disability) and Idaho Medicaid (usually by income and care need). Coordinating the two well can add benefits and reduce out-of-pocket costs.
- What is an MMCP-style integrated plan?
- Idaho offers coordinated plans that combine Medicare and Medicaid benefits under one plan, with one card and one care coordinator, plus added benefits like transportation and dental. Enrollment in an integrated plan is optional. We compare it against keeping Original Medicare and Medicaid separate, using the client's actual doctors and prescriptions.
- Is integrated enrollment mandatory?
- No. Dual-eligible Idahoans can choose an integrated plan or keep Original Medicare and Medicaid separate. We walk through both paths before recommending either.
- Can a caseworker or guardian enroll on someone's behalf?
- Yes. With the right documentation, such as legal guardianship, healthcare power of attorney, or representative payee status, we can complete enrollment with the authorized party. We're used to this workflow and work often with case managers and guardians.
