Enrollment periods, explained.

Health insurance rules aren't kind about deadlines. Here are the windows that matter most for Idaho residents, and when to call us so nothing slips.

IEP
7-month window around your 65th birthday

Initial Enrollment Period

Starts 3 months before your 65th birthday month and ends 3 months after. Missing it can trigger lifelong Part B and Part D late-enrollment penalties.

AEP
October 15 to December 7

Medicare Annual Enrollment

The window to switch between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage, change Advantage or Part D plans, or drop/join Medigap in most states. Changes take effect January 1.

OEP
January 1 to March 31

Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment

If you're already on a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one chance during OEP to switch to a different Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare with a stand-alone Part D.

MP
November 1 to January 15 (Your Health Idaho)

Marketplace Open Enrollment

The window for individual and family plans on Your Health Idaho. Enroll by December 15 for January 1 coverage.

SEP
Triggered by qualifying life events

Special Enrollment Periods

Losing coverage, moving, marriage, birth or adoption, Medicaid eligibility changes, and dual-eligible status changes can all open a Special Enrollment Period, typically 60 days from the event.
